Once Upon a Time in a Magic Bakery

The Glass-Walled Empire was in a world where magic existed, and this magic was, on this particular day, being used by the great queen of the realm to go to the bakery. The air seemed to sparkle and shimmer as the queen stepped out from thin air. No one could touch her robe, even if they wanted to, because it was protected by a magical shield. An onlooker’s finger would stop half an inch before it reached the iridescent velvet, the purple of a seashell’s smooth interior. Her crown appeared to be made of purple gold.

In her regal stride that looked like she was gliding above the ground, she walked up to the counter of the bakery. Her mouth did not move. Her power put her above talking, except to the great king. Yet a voice still spoke. It was nothing like hers. It echoed with every creature’s voice. It was the voice of magic. It requested on her behalf a batch of muffins, the legendary rainbow muffins. Their ingredients were nearly impossible to obtain. Their taste was allowed only to members of the Highest Family.

Then the task was made impossible. She asked for half a baker’s dozen, yet demanded only whole muffins. Then she raised her scepter and glided through the air to the great palace from which she had come.

Why did she come here where the baker had only his small savings, his shop, and his daughter? To this day, the answer can only be revealed through one story.

That story begins here.
